Membership
The principal members of the UN Network are those that hold a key mandate in nutrition, FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO. They have committed in the United Nations Global Nutrition Agenda, in their recently validated policy and strategy and under the Nutrition Decade to work more efficiently and effectively together to increase convergence for accelerated nutrition impact. At country level, the UN Network also integrates other UN agencies with untapped potential to address nutrition. The UN Network also includes REACH facilitators, where present.
The UN Network is active in all countries that are engaged in the SUN Movement as shown in the map below.
Accountability
The UN Network draws upon a series of accountability mechanisms and processes, with a view to ensuring that it is making valuable contributions to the SUN Movement. A global Steering Committee, comprised of the directors and/or chiefs of nutrition from FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO, guides the UN Network (including UNN-REACH), following the procedures outlined in the UNN-REACH MoU. At the country level, the Chair of the UN Network updates the UNCT periodically on progress.
Specific monitoring and evaluation efforts are guided by the UN Network’s M&E system which is comprised of various elements, including the UN Network Results Framework, regional and global accountability measures and country-level monitoring. Quantitative and qualitative data on country-level activities is tracked through an outline portal on an annual basis and contribute to SUN Movement reporting, including its annual progress report and country MEAL dashboards. At the regional and global levels, progress is measured vis-à-vis activities identified in annual UNN workplans, endorsed by regional directors/representatives and the Steering Committee respectively. These activities feed into an aggregated UNN reporting analysis, the Global Nutrition Report and the SUN Movement Annual Progress Reports as part of efforts to foster mutual accountability.
